I have replaced the old ( sigle window ) instrument cluster on my VT with a triple window one and everythinik is ok except one thing , that the gear indicators on the new instrument cluster doesn't show the gear you are using... and I checked that ther is no problem wuith the lights but they don't work at all. any ideas?
what is a gear light and how did it get in your dash?
I changed the old instrument cluster of my car with one that has three digital displays, the old instrument cluster did not have gear indicator in the middle between the speedometer and the rpm meter, but the new one i have installed have this gear indicator in the middle it shows like ( P R D 3 2 1 ) but it doesn't seem to work on my car ...

well, I get them from another car and they were working on that car...
This feature was only present on the VTII and VX Berlina/Calais and WH Statesman/Caprice auto models (i.e. VT series 1 don't have them).
With a little work and patience this feature can be added to any VT series 1 auto model (or lower-spec VTII/VX) - except the 5 Litre V8's as they don't have the necessary 4-pin electrical socket on the side of the auto transmission.
I bought a VTII Calais cluster and put it into my VT series 1 Calais. I then did the required mods as explained in this old thread from late last year...

Yep you need the loom from trans to the computer, did it to mine and worked a treat.
