hi i have a vt exective series 1 and i have steam coming from the air vents, when you use the heater it has a bad burning smell, air con still works fine
any ideas and how to fix
There is a good chance that the heater core is leaking.
MY RIDE
I thought I was wrong once but I was mistaken.
could be your drainage from the evaporator is blocked and water is building up
I'd go with heater core leaking
So far I haven't found a thread that tells me how to get to the heater core? My Statesman has a leak and its bl***y cold with it disconnected! Instructions and piccies or linky would be helpful, please. Just found it, here Anything special for those with airbags?

Heater core is a huge pain to replace.
I just got a bottle of Bars Leak and put it in, no heater core leak since![]()
my vt ss is losing quite a lot of coolant ,but no leaks. heater core not leaking. could it be dodgy radiator cap![]()
i have a vt commodore when you accelerate the aircon changes vents and blows through the demisters. when i back off the revs it returns to blowing cool air out the dash vents . i dont understand this and it is giving me the shits
Mine has a distinct smell of coolant when the heater is on, and it will fog the windscreen for the first minute or so... I was told it is a bypass valve at the core, and it normal on VT's.... It will not loose enough fluid to worry you, so put up with the smell, or pay $500+ to get it fixed......
If your getting steam, I'd say it more like the core though....
If I'm not pulling Toyota's out of the Bush, I'm pulling 12's in the Sig :-)
Sounds like the mouse from the ECU (Engine Computer Unit) has crawled into the AC ducting and died... a common problem on these earlier models, because the car/mouse is now eleven years older or more (extremely old for a mouse). An ECU diagnostic will tell you if the mouse is not active any more, just get a new one. If you're handy with a soldering iron you can re-wire a PC mouse to do the job. The smell will go away after a while... just like a dead mouse in the ceiling of a house etc.
