    Default Transmission lines VX

On the ecotec, is the return line running from the engine to the radiator cooler, or from the radiator towards the engine ? When flushing the trans, either side would be sufficient, but direction of flow needs to be known as when i flush i want to remove the old fluid from the cooler as well. Facing the engine, is the line on the LHS the return from the engine and on the RHS the line from the cooler back into the transmission ? This is where i would like to flush from.

The line going into the radiator on the bottom is the hot fluid from the trans. The one coming from the top of the radiator is the cooled fluid going back to the trans.

With the car turned off, just remove the bottom line going to the radiator and aim it into a large bucket. Have a mate start the car breifly until the fluid pressure drops slightly. Turn the car off and top up the trans fluid then repeat until you get good coloured fluid coming out the line

The one coming from the bottom hole on the drivers side of the trans is fluid out and the top is fluid back in

Thanks mate, thats what i thought. So by disconnecting the one running from the transmission to the engine(RHS facing engine) you would be flushing the cooler with new fluid as well ?

When i first flushed only a few litres i used the return line you mentioned, but i swear in the Gregories, it shows that same line with a hose on the end of the radiator side of the pipe and draing into a pan. Very deceiving. When i did it to that picture, i splattered fluid everywhere as i only had a hose on the radiator side not the bit coming from engine. I am asking as to double check my lines arent on the wrong way.

Does that pipe also have a rubber section to it? If i'm thinking of the correct pipe, then my VX SII has a rubber section so I should be flushing from there right? Much easier than undoing metal pipe??

My VXII has both lines coming out the bottom of the cooler. If you are standing where the engine is and looking towards the front of the car at the radiator, the line on the left is the line taking hot fluid TO the cooler and is called the return line. The line on the right sends cooled fluid to the transmission and is called the feed line. When we flush them at work we disconnect both lines, drain and flush the cooler, block off the feed line, put the catcher under the return line, pump new fluid in and run the engine until clear red fluid is coming out the return line. Then we re-connect all the lines, top up the fluid, run the car, top up again and check for leaks. Both lines have rubber sections on mine and yes, that is the easiest place to work from - don't try and undo the metal bits as they are easy enough to damage.
