does engine have to come out to replace a VT V8 sump?

hi all, my VT S1 SS is leaking aroudn the sump enough to cause a few drops after each drive. my mechanic said that the engines going to have to come out to replace, which i find strange. is that the case?

yeah got one last night thanks to the advice on here. seems it does have to come out (well off it's mounts anyway)

whats the guesstimate cost to do this job from a mechanic? average price range?

On the LS1, which is a similar scenario, drop the K-Frame/Take motor out they quote 14hours labour for the job.

Easiest way to do this would be to buy/hire an engine crane, support the motor, undo the mounts and drop the k-frame on jacks, change the sump then jack the k-frame back into position.
