hi all
I have a 5.0 VT the I am getting no charge from the alternator unless I wiggle the plug at the rear with 2 small wires coming from it. I checked the main feed wire and it was all good.
I can start the car and the "battery" light will be on, I pop the bonnet and give the plug a wriggle and the alternator fires up and the light goes out by the time I hope back in the car.
My question
Is it just a short within the plastic plug or is it a regulator problem that is fixing itself when I wriggle the plug.
I have looked around on here but havent really found anything definitive.
thanks everone
Mate could be a bit of corossion on the terminals, remove the plug and see if the terminals have a white powdery residue on them, if they do give them a light sand with a bit of fine sand paper
If they are clean could be a broken wire in the plug, i dont think it would be the regulator as it would play up all the time
is there a way of testing the regulator ?
also one of the brushes looks pretty knackered, how much wear is normal?
thanks again mate. I cut the wires off the plug and put other crimped things on and the problem is still there.
Do you know where I could get a new plug?
