my engine will make a bad rattle noise between 1800 and 2200 revs under light load/acceleration like a buggered cat.
using a stethoscope i listened to the extractor on the RH side and its a nice quiet pur however on the LH side its a rattley noise.. removed the LH tappet cover to check springs and rockers and they seem to be fine...
enigne just clicked over 240,000 so its a bit worn
Use your stethoscope to check front idle pulley underneath alternator, they can also rattle & resonate through the motor.
Also check front balancer for damage.
I have a similar problem as well, but presents it self as a loud squeak. Replaced the drive belt, squeak was still there, but not as loud. It also goes away after about 15min when it warms up. I cant seem to find the source of the squeak, is it worth replace the tension pulley's or are there any other things i can look at that may bee the problem.
