Default VT Ultra low spring questions

    Hi guys,
I have a few questions, i have a VT and i plan on putting ultra lows in it. How will it go with 15" rims? I will just use these until i can afford proper rims lol. Will i need a camber kit to stop the tyres from scrubbing out? Also will shortened shocks help improve the ride quality?

    Cheers!

u will need shortend shocks for sure or else you run the risk of the springs actually falling out.
i dont thin so but you may need to roll the rear guards but when you get new wheels you will prob need to or else they will scrub and not sure on camber kit
    good luck

It can quite easily be done at home is you buy a kit with the removal tool. It's not the install of the new bushes that's the problem, it's the removal of the old ones.

Yep, ideally you will need shorter shocks, have a look here:

    Hi mate,

Yep, they'll definitely fit, but the height may be wrong due to different vehicle weights.

    Cheers,

Spring will not fall out... unless you are planning on getting some major air time to having an accident in which the supension is ripped out... then yes... the spring might fall out.

I had KING SPRINGS SSSL rears which caused one wheel to lift of the ground pulling into a car wash driveway and the spring didn't fall out.

It's more of an issue with Live Axle suspension.

If you're going ultra low in a VT you are REALLY going to want to get a camber kit in there.

VT's are notorious for their severe camber issues so you will wear even 15's faster.

You SHOULDN'T have much scrubbing issues with 15's but once you get some 18's or 19's you will probably be looking at getting youre rear guards rolled.

Yes, shortened shocks will make a BIG difference... I had Pedders Shortened big Bore Racing shocks and the back end felt alot more planted and less bouncy than it was with the standard Fe2's.

That said, you can probably drive around with the stock shocks till they wear out without any real issues so long as you don't think you're the STIG.

    Cheers and good luck

Thanks heaps Jesterarts you answered all my questions in one go i really appreciate it. I'm gonna go with short shocks in the rear purely for the better ride quality. If you have any other advice you wanna throw my way it would be much appreciated lol.

    Thanks

I actually have one last question. How hard is to install a camber kit at home? I have been reading on here and the average price for labour is like 400 bux. Thats alot of money for me seeing as i'm on apprentice wages lol. I know a bit about cars and i have another car i can drive around whilst i'm installing the kit. What would i need to do it at home?

I can vouch for the need of shorter shocks. We put ultralows in the rear of a mates VT the other day with standard shocks and at the end we had to lower one side of the car at a time so one of us could guide each spring in place. There was a good few inches gap between the spring and the car!

As said they shouldnt come out unless your getting airborne. Im just worried if the car ever gets put on a hoist.

Installing a camber kit at hope is very doable and if you are looking to save some cash than give it a bash.

Last camber kit I help with was on a VS IRS Stato and I recall it was a bit of a pain in the arse but eventually we got it in there... though it ended up going in for an alignment the next day to get it set up properly.

But still worth it as a back end alignment costs like 50bux and getting the kit installed is like 200 or so I think.

    Good luck

    ^^^ What FA-777-VY said.

Different people say different springs are ultra lows.

The KINGS ranges used to Have SSL, SSSL and a L46HD or something and depending where you went, people called all of those ultra low.

So find out the correct part number you are after and send that to the ebay seller. That way if you get the wrong spring they can't say they thought you ment this and that.

I'd also recommend checking a Bursons if you have one in the area as they have very good prices usually.

Actually, scratch that, talk to GSLRallySport! They are a sponsor of this site and do some very nice deals for us members.

I've bought stuff off them in the past and they are great, good advice, good prices and good service.

    Good luck.

Thanks for that mate. Did you just use a jack to lift up the rear of your car when you were installing the camber kit?

No, we had the car on body stands. I recall there was some moments taking out the old bushes where we had to be pretty rough with the old girl and I wouldn't have been confident that the car wasn't gong to fall on we if it was just on a jack mate.

Safety first, borrow some stands or buy some... you can pick up ones with a 5tonne rating for like 80bux.

Every time I've worked on any cars suspension, be it the stato, my old VX or my e30 now, always get it up on body stands. Just feel a little bit safer.
