Tape player and Airbag display issue VT '98

I'm staying with my parents at the moment doing a few odd jobs, and one i have 2 odd issues with the old VT wagon.

First the Tape player (yes a tape player lol) wont work... you have to put in a four digit code and it gives you 3 tries. Ive worked out that the code is "1111" and it starts working but the display flashes and after about 3mins it turns off and you have to put the code back in. Any Ideas on this one?

Second, was the other day the airbag symbol on the dash with the little tune comes on and stays on every time the car is started. The airbags are not deployed. Is there a way to reset this so it wont come on.

I have fixed a few other issues on the car but these 2 are a mystery lol.

For the airbags the car must go on tech 2 or diagnostic equip to reset, There must be a problem the system. There are more then just the airbags that logged that fault. Ie seatbelt base retractors...

For the tape player it's possibly power supply to unit or eternal problem.

i had that same problem, took it to a friend who had a tech 2 and he reset it, hasnt been a problem since.

he did mention either something wrong with the airbag eg dislodged somehow just enough to trigger the sensor or the seat belt pretensioners.

Hey Ben, the code 1111 that you are entering is the test code. This will allow the unit to work for 3 minutes only. You have three attempts at getting the code right. You must leave the cars ignition on Accessories for 1 hour to get your attempts again.

You can go to Holden and get the code from them, some people get it for free others pay $25- $30 for the code.

Or if your good with a screw driver and soldering iron I can show you how to change the code to what you like ( only for tape players)

Like the other guys have said you will need a Tech2 to clear the Airbag fault and it will tell you which part is faulty.
