Hey All,
I'm looking to upgrade my stock VT II Exec 15" rims (205/65/15) to something larger due to the fact that I am in need of some new tyres, so initially I figured I could just getting some used 17" or 18" rims and tread for a similar price of 4 new tyres from fleebay / jc etc.
Now I know about the 25mm width/15mm rolling diameter differences and set out on my barging journey for some 17/18" rims.
Using Wheel / tire size calculator / comparer - RIMS-N-TIRES
I figured I can get:
225/45/17 + 225/50/17
225/40/18+ 225/45/18 (maybe a 235 if it'll fit)
I also quickly find out that I need a PCD of 5 x 120mm and and offset of arround +45mm?
Don't know the center diameter (don't know if this matters)
So heres where I get stuck...
Before I go and purchase my new wheels, I do the right thing and call the insurance company and this is what they tell me.
Bcoz of my "good histrory, no claim, blah blah" I can go upto 1" wider in the rim (upto 8.0"), BUT, It must be a "HSV" wheel, and it MUST be fitted by a holden dealership. So I ask about the diameter of the rim its self and they say it doesn't matter its only they width they care about.
WTF? Can anyone explain this....
So after my phone call 18's were the only thing on my mindand maybe I can get away with a 7.5" width in a 18" rim
but that is proving a pain in the @ss. Is this there way of a cruel joke? lol
Is 0.5" going to make that much difference? I guess it affects the camber on the wheels and thus increases wear?
Should I just get whatever with 8.0" width?
Any help this is doing my head inas I see all these nice 18's but there are always 8.0 wide.

insurance company sounds like a bunch of retards lol.
SIR LS1
the two ton go kart
Sigh, yes.. they are a bunch of retarts..
I have called them again to confirm their babel and now there telling me 7" wide only or 8" in any Holden rim. If its any wider its classed as a "high performance" car. LOL.
So just did a quick online quote with Justcar for all the mods I want and they are asking $1013/year, insured for $7000, I can reduce it about $50 if I only list the wheels. (currently I'm paying about $83.00 a month with allianz so either way)
Also did online quote with Shannons and got quoted $856 for similar mods insured for $9999!
So looks like I might have found my solution
Anyone got any feedback in regards to Shannons/Justcars? One better than the other anything I should be careful of?
Should I put on the quote all the "potential mods" now to stop them bumping or refusing later should I wish to make a change. Just worried they price unfairly knowing I'm already insured with them at the time. Experiences?
Thanks!
