Hey i've got an exhaust system on my car at the moment and i want extractors i was wanting to konw if it would make it too loud and is it true that they help wit fule and when your getting extractors how do ya know if there extractors and not headers
Thanks![]()
umz, best to just go to your exhaust fitter and ask them for some 3-1 or 4-1 extractors, just get pacemakers if you can, theyre pretty good, as for fuel, not sure if they make your car run better, bet id assume so.
it makes the car a fair bit louder, but not "TOO"loud, if you need to just get a quietner put on (your exhaust shop can do that for you)
they dont make your car much louder just gruntyer hotdogs make loud
no extractors dont make your car more powerfull
it's a mix of extractors intake injectors tuneing ect
more power means more eco at same revs
thanks guys very much :-D
SO that means they do give you more power ? Certain mods will effect certain power bands. The best explaniation i have gotten is from the Machine Gun Cat man on here Not an Abba fan. Ask him about it. He knows his stuff. Certain designs, press bent, tuned length, mandrel bends will all give different power characteristics. HM advertise low down power gain, so the power band is shifted lower in the rev range, Pacemaker are more middle band. Some give smaller gains accross the board. Do your research, smaller pipes can make more power on a certain car setup(mild) where larger pipes are needed on more rigorous setups. Too big is the worst.
Theres heaps of threads on it, especially sound related. I recently fitted soem Genies with ceramic coatings, and they have been fantastic. Sound did change, much deeper. My fuel economy figures were slightly better. Gave me back what i lost when putting on the rockers.
Headers and extractors are one and the same.
no a header is cast my mate has a vh valiant pacer it has cast headers they are 3 into 1 3 into 1 then 2 into 1 look it up mate
as for power the stock pipes should have the right sized pipes
as for high rpm power i meant the peak on a dyno will be slitely higher but guss what dynos dont tune load senarios
but there are dynos that can dont think there are many in aus
on the street no gain unless you use a cai and tune/chip with them
Headers and extractors....these days, yes they are the same, but it also depends on who you talk to. A header is called a header because it bolts to the head. Some people will say that a header is the Tri Y or interference type extractor, and Extractors are the tuned length or 3-1/4-1, because they "extract" the exhaust from the heads. But they all do that in a sense. So really, there is no difference now between a header and an extractor. Also, years ago, a cast "header" was all that was available, so that is what they were called.
As for them adding power? Yes and no. Technically, the "power" they add was always there in the engine to start with, it was just being choked back by the factory manifolds and exhaust. So you are really only getting back what was taken away. What they do most notably is to change the torque curve. Depending on the design, they can either give you more bottom to mid range acceleration, or more top end. They effectively change where the engines usable torque is in relation to it's revs.
Not an abba fan just pwned you all
I told you machine gun cat knows.
