Hi all,
I'm in the process of buying a 2000 VTII Berlina, and had an RACV test done on it today. There are a couple of minor things I'm not worried about, but one item stood out to me. The tester has given Engine the Green=Go rating, but has listed under coolant condition "Slight oil residue noted which is usually caused by slight internal weep at intake manifold gasket. Common and optional". He gave the severity rating an "O" which is for observation only.
This sort of thing worries me a little, but his report seems to suggest that it's a non issue. I'll give them a call when they reopen tomorrow to get clarification on this, but would like some outside opinions too please.
Cheers!
Since no one else has posted I would just do like you said and speak to the guy, but I would also be talking to at least another two or three "good" mechanics to get their opinions too.
'Ah well, I suppose it had to come to this.'
im guessing his talking about the LIM gasket which is always common on vt's even mine has done it.....nothing much you can do its not really "steer clear" bad as long as its fixed sooner rather then later.
it does not mean that the car has been thrashed or anything of the sort if that makes any differnce
Thankyou for the responses, just an update... i went ahead and bought the car, and after a flush of the cooling system the problem seems to have gone away. I will keep an eye on it but i think it may have just been from the water pump lubricating pellets that are put in the coolant during servicing.
My VX has the same problem and has been like that for 2 years . At least the cooling system won't rust out lol
