Hey people,
I have recently purchased a VT Series 2 Clubsport R8 with only 105k on the clock. Its been treated really well troughout its life. It has Extractors and after market system on it(not sure exactly what the previous owner couldnt tell me much)it has Growler cold air induction system and super low king springs. I was reading that growler ss inductions werent all there cracked up to be, was also wondering would it be worth getting MAFless done on it as opposed to the factory HSV tune. could i expect better performance and economy as opposed to the factory. Also what kind of Air induction would people recommend for an LS1. Cheers guys hope you can help me
Go a custom MAFless tune and whack an Over The Radiator CAI on it.
Should be good for about 220kw at the wheels.
Was talking to a few people and they said the same thing. My step dad had a VU SS ute, he had MAFless done with exhaust and a Holden CAI cut and drilled and he registered 240kw at the wheels. Was hoping for around the same if not more. What kind of Extracters and Exhaust sytem would be best. Probably go with some high flow cats too??
If you have stock cat converters change em to hi flow 100 or 200 cell parts to gain a little more power from the tune. FYI the HSV tune on the clubby LS1 is just like the the others before it, weak in comparison to custom ones.
where abouts you located mate?
if its in the western suburbs of melbourne take a drive out to GM Motorsport and have Fonzie tune it for you - meant to be the best in vic for tuning v8's from VT - VE holding the record for fastest bolt on VE 11 sec bracket and fastest Cammed at 10 sec bracket.
he knows what he's doing out there he'll get an OTR CAI for just under 700 done for you and tune it for you to perfection.

I though the R8 was a factory MAFless tune?? Or is that just the C4B?

If your in SA, go see Street Tuna (Martin) as he is pretty switched on and has some good numbers on the board.
HSV (except for c4b engines) vehicles have the same engine (until the VZ's) as the standard Holden range, the main differences are exhaust and tune. With the quality of the tuning software (and more so the tuners) autos can be tune to 190-220rwkw depending on mods, and the manuals can be around 210-240rwkw depending on mods.
Recommend mods are intake & exhaust, another good mod is change the diff gears to 3.9's. No extra power but you will find the acceleration a little more zippy. Not sure but you may wish to check if you have the LS1 or LS6 manifold, if the LS1 you may wish to change to the LS6 or a fast version.
Since you already have these you may wish to visit a tuner and seek their advice before you make a decision. Personally I went for the 1&3/4 DF extractors, custom twin 3" exhaust (but 2.5" should be fine), Ballistic racing cats from Sureflow and DUSpeed OTR.
