4L60E auto issues

hey i got a ls1 gen 3 5.7 litre with a auto,the auto is playing up.
i have 1st and 2nd gear,reverse locks up as if its in a forward and reverse gear and park is the same.there is no 3rd and 4th gear.
the oil is in the box is discusting as well.its the way i got the car yesterday.
can any one tell me if its screwed or its a electrical problem.

Get the box serviced. Hopefully it will solve your problem. If not it's a new transmission.

i'd take a stab at the bands need replacing.
had the same happen to mine, dropped 3rd and 4th gears (after much drag racing )
i got my trans shop to upgrade all the internals to cope with more racing, but was told that the bands were the initial prob.
fairly common with age/hard driving or power upgrades.
if reverse isn't working, might also be a fluid line block (also have had that happen, after the box was repaired, but it wouldn't move in reverse or 1st.. or at all)

definately get a service if you oil looks crappy.. they'll soon diagnose your 3rd + 4th drama too.
