Default replacing loose pulley, need help...

    Hey Guys,

When engine is idle (and even on throttle), it makes a rattling sound. I was told it may have been the coupler inside the supercharger but on closer inspection, this pulley in the pic is really loose. I can move it back and fourth.

Im not sure what the pulley is for but is replacing it the fix?
I'm all good with removing the belt to do it but just wanted to know if fixing the problem was as simple as undoing the bolt at the front of the pulley and replacing the pulley?

Also what kind of pulley and how much for a new one?

Any help would be much appreciated.
    Cheers

If you end up doing the puller take close attention which way it comes off making sure the new one goes on the same way.
If put on wrong way will not spin and burn the belt.
I think its that particular pulley but not sure.

    thanks for your help guys.

VSl67 -> it sort of does sound like that, however i'm hoping it doesn't come to this. I'm going to replace the pulleys first and see how I go. I replaced the Coupler inside the supercharger yesterday just because I already bought it from ebay. 2 of the bolts on the snout were a b*tch to get too, had to remove the alternator for one of them. I haven't really worked on a car before so it was a fun little exercise.

I took off the two tensioner pulleys and 1 of the two idler pulleys. The tensioner pulleys dont look too bad and spin OK but the bearing inside the idler pulley is stuffed. I cannot get the second/larger(the one to the far right) idler pulley off . I'm pretty sure its right hand thread because I was told only the tension pulleys are left hand thread. Any ideas on how to get it off, spray it with WD40???

180SC-> Are there any particular brands i should look out for or stay away from. I'll prob give repco a call tomorrow and see what they got. But found some on ebay for about 25-30 ish and the brand is gates... any good?

    cheers once again

if your meaning the pulley furthermost to the right the ribbed one im am pretty certain its a left hand thread because mine now has a bolt and washers and lots of locktight on that one

Mine has nuline pulleys and they are still quiet and sweet 30,000k so far.

Replaced the pulleys and belt and all is good. No more rattling sound.

I got my parts from metro holden as they were cheaper than repco and were genuine GM too.
Cost about 170 for the two tensioner pulleys, two idler pulleys and the S/C belt.

180sc -> you were right, it was right hand thread.

    Cheers for the help
