Evening peoples,
Need a new clutch for my VU soon but ive heard about a Solid flywheel conversion from the standard dual mass. The Kits for the dual mass are quite expensive and if its possible to convert toa solid flywheel and let it be a cheaper option now and in the future, il take it. Can anyone expand on this for me, whats required and costs etc?
Cheers,
Social.
ring adelaide clutch services or get a clutch kit from capa... think they are on special this month too
CAPA : Price List
stage 1 clutch and steel flywheel should see you through
Have a look at the for sale section. I am selling a manual conversion that comes with a solid flywheel.
VSteve, im aware of how manual conversion work mate but im converting from a dual mass to solid, i beleive theres more involved.
Peanuts, im looking to fine out what il need to do / have done and whether its jsut a removal of all the dual mass components or something else.. Do you know the process? And i believe those clutch(s) / kits are for a v8 mate ive only got a 6
ohhhhhhhhh sprry my bad
just needs the old flywheel unbolted and the solid one bolted back on with new bolts... replacement ones are designed to be direct changeover with no mods required
so basically just a standard clutch change
If you get a solid flywheel you will need a clutch plate that has springs in it. Your car is currently the other way around. It has springs in the flywheel and the clutch plate is solid.
I got the kit from REPCO for $1100
ebay have a couple of kits for sale
hey mate i just did a manual conversion on my vu, and put a new clutch in while i was there, i got a exedy heavy duty. comes with the solid flywheel drive plate an clutch, spigot bush thrust bearing an new bolts everything u need, jus swaps strait over and came with a tool for aligning the clutch. u can get them for around $900 maybe look on ebay
hi all,
i have a VX commodore which the clutch is starting to go, and was wondering if anyone knows the benefits of changing from a dual flywhell to a single with a heavy duty clutch?
Cheers
I recently had my VU's clutch done and after research decided to pay the extra and stick with dual mass.
Single will make it cheaper and if you need to change a clutch in the future then it could be worth it, but I can't see me owning my vehicle if it ever goes again.
The main reason I stuck with what was designed for the car is because alot of people commented on how much noisier the gearbox becomes on a solid mass flywheel.
I decided paying the little extra to get what was originally designed for the car was best, it'll come down to your budget and if you don't mind the extra noise in your cabin.
