i got a 2001 VT commodore and i just checked the tranny fluid cold while i was checking my oil and water and all that fun stuff.
i have a feeling there is way to much tranny fluid in it cause its right up to where the writting starts on a VT's dip stick .
what are the running symptoms of to much tranny fluid.
my revs are sitting at about 600 RPM and now and then the car will give a jerk and it will feel like the whole rear end of the car is lifting and the power train light comes on....is this connected ?
Was the engine running when you checked the trans fluid level? It needs to be running to do a level check just in case you don't already know. Up to 1cm over the hot fill level at cold check won't do any harm.

nah motor wasnt running just a quick cold check as i was passing by with the engine off and cold the fluid was at least 5 cm above the hot mark
ok just went for a drive to heat it all up and the tranny fluid is correct..
but are my revs to low sitting at 600 - 800 RPM?
revs are fine mate, trans fluid must be checked in 'P' to be accurate

idle is 700rpm +- 50
ok sweet thanks ....so what would be causing the other stuff? its like its surging when i have the brakes on u can actually feel the rear end lift up and the revs drop right down ..once the power train light came on and it wasn't till i kicked her into neutral and gave her a rev..
If you have the aircon/ climate on, in somecars if the battery isn't the best the automatic switching on and off of the air con can cause a voltage drop which will in turn cause a momentary drop in revs or a fluctuation. My calais does this as the battery is on it's last legs

oh ok ill get my battery checked ....i was going to get it checked cause it looks like its " weeping " from out under the screw caps ....i dunno if its just from the recent heat or not..
take it to a mechanics and get a scanner onto it and they'll be able to tell you why your powertrain light came on

yeah im gunna have to Abrowne70 it happened again tonight, car gave a big jerk as i was idleing and the powertrain light came on again....threw her in N and gave her a rev and it went out
If your battery is wet around the caps it could mean that your alternator is overcharging or your battery is about ready to die. Either of these two problems could be upsetting your ECU
well the battery is only 5 months old tops....so i'll get the alternator checked
just a thought...if it is the alternator....would that explain the rev..the lifting of the back of the car and the power train light coming on? I.E power surge?
It is possible that a crook alternator can be causing your problems by overcharging
oh joy!! more money i cant afford to spend at the moment lol.... booking the car in tommorow to get it checked
