is it really worth the $ putting extractors, cai, K&N panel filter, r/r on stock v6? is there anything you reccomend?and how much u reckon you need to spend to get it even up to stock gen 3 5.7 power.

So whats the point of this thread, are you having a dig at guys with sixes that spend money on them? Obviously it's always going to be more worth while buying a V8 over a V6 but some guys don't want a V8 so it's up to the individual. Bottom line is if you want a fast car then buy an V8 and if you don't care then buy a V6.
Kinda pointless thread.
If your starting with a fresh budget and you want performance, you buy a performance car (V8, turbo etc).
Most people get stock V6s as thats all they can afford at the time (or restricted to), and once they get a little more money down the track they upgrade them a little. Things you've listed are probably worth it, as you can spend $3-4k and get it running fairly quick.... spending more than that usually gives better results if you sell the car and get a V8
so no one has spent lots of their hard earned only to realise it was not worth it, i just wanna know what is worth doing and what products are good, sure id like a more fuel efficent car with more go, i just want the best bang 4 buck
Best bang for buck is a V8. You said it your self
lol alot of people spend thousands to realise, its fast.. but not that fast
a super6 is the closest youll get to a ls1.. at the end of the day you may aswell just by a v8.. you wont match the power within any worth while spending figure
I made the mistake a while ago of putting a shit load of cash into a VR Exec wagon. Was a manual V6, but was never "fast". In the end i had some idiot crash into me and write it off, and the insurance company only gave me "redbook" value (About $2k, i had put in over $10k).
So rode a bike for 10-11 months, and just purchased a heavily worked VX SS. Best bang for buck is to buy something that someone has already put a LOT of money into.
(I wouldnt buy something with OTR/MAFless/Exhaust, as people only do this to thrash the car. Whereas the one i bought had a serious amount of money put into it, so it was less of a "thrashing" car, it was someones pride and joy).
So short answer, its never really worth trying to make a V6 (commodore anyway) seriously fast. Sell the car, buy a factory V8/
cheers feistl, so wat are best products to improve fuel economy without losing power and maybe improving it, course it depends on how you drive, i am just a cruiser more highway driving than city.
Probably not - for that sort of power I'd start here:
Starting point for Gen 3 5.7 power
Add a few parts to get it running and you should be bang on target
Reaper
Anything I'd recommend? Yes. Buy only second hand parts if you're working a V6, it's the only wayExtractors $150, cat back 2.5" exhaust $100, filter $30, roller rockers don't bother, that's way too keen for entry level low budget stuff, cold air intake $50, tune $50.
To flog a stock GenIII: turbo kit, home grown $3000 or less if you are smart, even 10psi would do it![]()

good advice can't justify 300 on cai,900 on exhaust and extractors, but 2nd hand is ok if $ is reasonable and i can fit it myself. i think the only way you can pass an 8 is when they are filling up, how bout mods just for fuel economy no power loss? i chose to buy a 6 do alot of k's mainly highway
