Default i have a massive problem... anyone know how to fix it?

i have a vx berlina with an ecotec .. I just changed the fuel pump. It was working fine for a day. Then driving it home, it started to idle weirdly. Going all the way up then coming back down then going back up again. Then it stalled. I started it again it was fine for a bit then it stalled again. I started it again. It starts first go. I done this till i got home and then i checked the pump see if i got the pipes the right way round. They were fine. Then i noticed black smoke coming out of the exhaust while it was reving weirdly. I heard a few things but im not quite sure what it is

i have no idea whats wrong with it.

    any ideas?

your fuel reg is leaking fuel into the inlet manifold replace it and start again , will be very rich hench the black smoke . reset your pcm by disconnecting the battery for 30 seconds . have you rechecked your fuel pressure ???

i took it to a mechanic mate of mine this morning. he showed me that it was missfiring by taking off the leads from the coil pack and seeing no spark.. he reckons its a high possiblity its that :S.. and yeah he checked all the pressures and stuff. said they were fine
