+ one for NGK. I think Bosch are crap, an old mechanic mate of mine told me that years ago so I've steered clear of Bosch.

I gotta agree with NGK being better than the bosch equivalent.

I had a new set of bosch plugs put in my porsche and within a month I had big problems with idle and rough revs. When I took them out and they were cracking on the outside and black on the plug!..(I'm pretty sure the mechanic used just a standard bosch plug that wasn't the right temperature requirement of the car.)

I got some NGK plugs with a high heat rating and straight away car was purring better than when the bosch plugs where just put in. I checked them few months later and they're still perfect.

Also put a set in the vt (which had GM plugs before) and could notice a good improvement in idle/smoothness but the old plugs where pretty average.

I've read the bosch super 4 (or something?) are meant to be good, but then if you paying more you'd expect better performance

I Found the GM Holden Plugs the Best. In Recent Tests between a VR and VX, tested With standard Bosch plugs, and Found I was getting 100KMs less to a tank, and rough idle with them.
Both Seem to run much better and more kms to a tank with the GM Plugs, and are $4.50 a Plug! Cheap!

would be interesting to compare the GM plugs with the NGK.
I've never liked bosch's standard plugs, imo they're not even worth comparing .
NGK are the factory plug used in skylines, silvia's and most jap cars, so if its good enough for them I reckon its good enough for my daily.

Each to their own, I just prefer NGK and find they are quite good, mind you I used to use Bosch until the old mechanic guy said in his opinion they were crap.

The GM plugs are NGK BPREFS-15 Type R. Same deal. Around $4 - $4.50 each either at Repco or Holden

I'm usually pretty wary about taking one persons advice, even if they are a mechanic. I'm not going to say which is better because there is no definite answer to that question. I will say there no point in spending big bucks on 'high performance' plugs which cost $20 each unless your ignition system is high performance to match. Just stick with your $4 plugs and the correct part number.

I will however say the I'm a big fan of Bosch plugs and leads. I've never had Bosch plugs or leads fail on me. I've had 2 sets of leads fail in my life time (both genuine) and a set of genuine plugs fail. So I use Bosch because I know they are reliable, not because someone told me too.

A little off Topic but whats the difference between Denso and Delco? When did Holden switch from one supplier to the other?

It all depends on which supplier Holden was buying out to stop them from going under at the time usually. GM Holden acquired majority shareholder stakes in ION in 2004 because they were the supplier of the Alloytec sumps and were going bust until GM saved the day. No wonder Holden is scaling back, fingers in way too many pies

Denso is actually the Toyota equivalent of Delco. They are both subsidiaries of their respective parent companies (GM and Toyota) and produce many of their parts.

Well this guy is now 71 and has been a mechanic all his life. He has helped me out time and again over the years with advice etc. I chose to take his advice on NGK plugs years ago and never had a problem with them. Each to their own, another mechanic may say that bosch or champion or etc, etc are the go, whatever works for us eh?

I agree completely about "performance" plugs, been there, done that, got the t-shirt (several time). I can't speak for how they run in top-fuel dragsters, or other extreme applications, but in a run of the mill street driven engine, they are worth sweet F.A.

I vote el'stocko GM plugs. They are good quality, designed specifically for your engine, and almost always cheaper than the equivalent plug from SuperCrap/RicerBarn etc.
