Default ABS Lights on??? (VT 'SS' 5L)

    Hi all,

I’ve got a VT ‘SS’ 5L. For some funny reason, got the tires changed at the back and when I got it back from the tires place, the abs lights were on?

Does anyone know what caused this? I’m sure it’s got nothing to do with me changing my tires and it must have been a coincidence.

My mechanic ran a scan on the computer, but could not find the problem. I rang my electrician and they said, it must be my abs/traction control module.

Has this happened to anyone before?

    Any help would be nice.

    Cheers

    Jeff

what do mean he ran a scan on the computer and couldn't find the problem?
Did he extract a fault code? Your story doesn't make sense... If the ABS light's on, there's usually a code to match. You need to get this code before you can do any more investigating as it could be one of hundreds of problems in different locations.
    Need more info.

I searched around the forum and read a few things.

    Problems could be as follows:
    - Loose battery connections
    - alternator earth loose
    - actual alternator
    - or a faulty ABS module

I will unplug the ABS module and clean it first, coz a new module is very costy.
Everything works fine in the car...air con, power steering, the other warning lights aren't on. It's just very annoying looking at this bright yellow light in my face.

    I'll keep you all updated.

    Thanks heaps for looking...

From what I've gathered, if only the ABS light is showing then more likely a sensor has come lose / failed.

For the ABS unit to start failing / have failed the engine, abs, traction control lights will display intermittently (On / Off) due to a data bus error. I believe disconnecting / reconnecting the ABS units connector will achieve nothing as the same light will come on again. You need a mechanic with a tech2 to see which error codes are being logged.

As a note, ensure the mechanic actually provides you with the error codes.

Hi having a similar problem but when pluged in a TECH II it would not comm with ABS on closer checking should the abs wire on the diag connector be on pin 12 or 13 looked at friends VS and it is on 13 mine on 12.

EDIT Superman are the new tyres the same size as the front as the abs will be confused with wrong size tyres.

Will check it out mate. I haven't had time to take it the the mechanic yet.

The tires that i put on is the same size at the ones at the front. my car has the stock 17inch SS wheels.

    thanks heaps for the input.

    Hi All,

Just an update. I was cleaning my engine today and whilst in the process I saw an electric cable that was located on the right hand side along the side of the engine bay. It looks wrong cos for some reason it seems that it should be attached to something else. I looked closer and saw a female end cable closer to the firewall of the engine bay. Put the two together and 'bingo' !!! the connect to each other. I believe this must be the ABS sensor. I then started the car and guess what? No more ABS light on the dash! WOW...I disconnected it it again just to ensure that it was the ABS cable and yes it was!!! Problem solved!!!

For those who was issues with the ABS light being on, make sure you check all the cables before purchasing a $400 ABS module.

Thanks for reading and all of your help.

addition to that, I've been to several other mechanic and electrician and they ran a scan on the computer and did not show an error code.
