Hi.. im new here and have searched and read all the threads on a/c but can't find an answer...
I have a VT S2 v6 calias the problem the a/c only works on high, if we lower it to anything else thats it, it cuts out. The display is still lit and everthing working but no air!!....so basically we can have it on high or nothing!!!
As summer is well on it's way as its bloody hot any help be great....
If no one has any idea it will be off to the auto elec next week.
Thanks in advance
Barney
Hi, its a common problem you have there. I currently have it myself.
Its the fan speed amplifier (resistor) that is faulty. Its about a $100 part from holden, problem is, they dont have any in Australia and dont expect and new stock till mid December.
You can try your local wreckers for the part, but since it only comes on the berlina/calais models, i havnt been able to find one. Expect to pay between $5 and $50 from the wreckers, depending if the sales bloke has a clue what you have pulled off. lol
The resistor is located behind the glove box, on the right hand side. Its easy to spot because it has a white face, an electrical connecter and its attached with two screws.
Hi,
Yeah I've got problems with it as well.
Thought I had it sorted but the thing is bloody temperamental.
It seems to work intermittently at the moment but will have to do something for summer for sure.
Access to it is pretty easy (behind glovebox ) on right side on airduct. Unplug it and screw it out of the duct (2 screws). Has got a heat-sink attached to the back sticking in the airduct. So testing one without being screwed into position could result in damaging the unit. Thing gets pretty hot...
Haven't had any luck here in NZ with wreckers either.
Good luck finding one!
cheers guys....thats was fast! mid december thats not good...got a contact in holden spares so maybe she can rattle me up one??
ok so i'm gonna attack it tomorrow and see if i can find it, sounds like it shouldn't be too hard.
i have no idea but.....Shouldn't all vt's have it??, i know i have the dual zone climate control thingie but i thought that would only be a few sensor's......Wouldn't all units need a fan speed amplifier??
cheers

just found this on here...
Repair of VT Variable Speed Fan Control Unit
so i'm gonna give it a go
The glovebox is easy to remove, hinge pin on right side can be removed when you remove all your stuff in the glovebox.
Has a sort of wedging action pin will slide out quite easily.
BTW noticed today that with ignition turned off the fan would keep running at the speed it was running with the ignition turned off. The display was dead and the fan wouldn't respond to input increase or decrease fan speed. Can't remember wether it was in "auto" mode or manual. This ECC is a little bit too temperamental for my liking....or is this usual for it do do this...
ok been a while but this bloody part is a pain in the ass!!! it's still on order...
