    Default 100 RON now avaliable...

So anyway at the united in Mulgrave I've noticed they have 100 RON as an addition of new fuel they have to offer, any idea if this stuff is bad for the ecotec's in VT commmodores?

Anyone had any experience with it?

Your engine will not have a problem with any fuel RON, as long as it's not so bad that the engine pre-ignites (or pings) when driving normally.
Most commodore engines are capable of using just about any unleaded petrol types available without problems.

I usually recommend not using a fuel with too high a RON as you don't get a return in kms or power for the extra $ spent at the bowser.

I love this stuff. Has been around for a while at some other United servos.

as far as I know it's normal 98 octane juice, with a 10% ethanol blend to give it the 100 octane rating?

I usually tune on 98 from any of the main retailers - and most of the time (unless unpractical) - I will run the 100 octane juice for safety margin.

Im not going into detail of what the higher octane rating actually means, but unless your running forced induction or very high compression then the octane doesnt really matter.

However, most premium fuels (while also having a high octane rating) contain cleaning agents and additives, which is better for your engine.

If your engine has been tuned to run on premium (by changing the ignition timing, injector timing etc) you'll get a bit better economy. Ive always run premium, and only purchased from large servos where the fuel is "turned over" often. tiny independent stations might have the fuel sitting underground for a month or more... by which stage it has gone off a little and absorbed a bit of water.
