Hey all,
I have a VT V6 and recently on the freeway it has been vibrating a lot.
It just started all of a sudden, it's never done this before. From about 103kmph i can feel a slight vibration in the car but at 110kmph it gets quite bad, you'd be an idiot if you couldn't feel it.
I can feel it through the steering wheel, my seat, even my head vibrates... the whole car basically.
My mech said it proly the universal joints in the tail shaft which have seized up or their bearings have gone bad.
Thats all i know right now. Any help would be great.
cheers
you can get some problems from your uni just from the work it has to do. this is the part that transfers the power from the drive line to the axle. with saying this the uni is not a hard job to do tho leave it to the mech if it's seized up (it will be a **** to get apart) should not cost to much
hope this helps
thanks buddy.
Update: we took off the tailshaft n checked it out. The uni joint on the diff side is moving arounds smoothly as it should but the one on the trans side has i little hesitation/step kinda thing in it when you move it around. The mech is gunna change both uni joits and only charge the labour if it fixes the problem.
He also said it could be the CV joint on the tailshaft and that if it needs replacing will cost $400 just for the CV is that about right or is he taking me for a ride?
got to love the commodore's cv joints ain't mach with work. but in a frount wheel drive there about $1200 cus you got to move the whole motor to get to them where as the rear wheel drive cars just drop the diff
If you are keen to have a go at it yourself, you could save yourself a lot of cash by trying some used ones, that would be a lot cheaper, much less than $100 for a pair.
