    Default Quick diff question

    Hi guys

Quick question - would the LSD from a VTII SS fit my '98 V6 50th Anniversary wagon?

Also just so I'm sure, when buying this I know it's an LSD cos it's got the extra box-looking bit on the back, correct?

All the LSD's taker the same oil.
Are you planning to drain old oil from another car to put in?
For the prive of new oil i would recomend putting new oil in it, and not to forget the additive.
The extra box looking thing you mean the tag behing the filler plug then it should be LSD.
Probably safer just to jack it up and check properly as some people woll say that it may say something like high perforance only where this is still an LSD but to avoid all confusion just jack it up.

Huh? I'm not talking about oil, I'm talking about replacing my entire standard diff with an LSD diff from a VTII SS.

yeah it will fit, it will bolt streight up prick of a job without a hoist tho but can be done. just check the tag and hold one wheel and get someone to turn the tailshaft and the wheels should turn the same direction mate

Yea tip to make probably the hardest bit a little easier.
The top four bolts to the cradle are an absolute pain to crack.
I always just pop a spanner on there, 17 from memory or maybe 19, and use a pry bar to get some leverage on it.

K I've seen a photo of the label on the side, it doesn't say LSD anywhere, so now I'm confused. I can't actually go and look at it as I'm in a different city.

It says (x's where I can't quite make it out):

    EH
    92053542
    S/N xxxx87
    RATIO 3.07:1
    [barcode]
    65 EH U 019187

The dude says it's LSD and that it's off a VT with the 5.7 V8 (so I assume VTII), but I know that the LSD was an option. It's this: VT SS LSD Diff (5.7 LS1) for sale - TradeMe.co.nz - New Zealand.

Any other suggestions to be sure before I commit? (I've still got the option to buy it until 10am tomorrow).

Cant tell by the badge on the side.
The badge your looking for is a plate that is bolted to the filler plug.
Will say some thing like LSD or High Performance.
