New seat belt, not hard to replace. Don't risk your safety to save a bit of coin. Can't remember price from Holden but it wasn't expensive.

Adjust the tentioner. clean off what ever crap is on the beat at the top where the belt comes down onto your lap and try a little dry glide. Worked for my old Subarus.

If you get one of those then prepare to get your car defected.

    1. It doesn't retract
    2. No seat belt pretensioners
    3. Where would you put the anchoring bolts
    4. It wouldn't work with a stock seat.

Its been ages since this thread began but still relavent as I spent a lot of time going thru heaps of post, threads to fix a broken-slow retracting belt. All the info was great and it pointed me in the right direction, so I have a couple of points to add that would have saved me $130. Still the lesson has been learnt and here it is
    1. After you have stripped the pillar of all trim, first do a little test - pull the belt just above the retracting mechanism. If it retracts quick and it should do then you know it can be fixed.
    2. The problem is other parts that the belt touches are hindering the speed of retracting.
    3. I followed instruction to wash the belt put it back on and still slow retracting so I brought a good 2nd hand belt and same slow retracting.
    4. Followed one more step and sprayed the belt and everything that it touched with silicon based spray - moved better but still not to my liking
    5. The problem I found is where the belt goes through the large buckle attached to the pillar. It has to be in line with the natural movement of the belt, If the buckle is at an angle then the belt will not move freely. Once alined properly it will move very quick.

Did I need to get another belt? NOOOOO bugger it. The old belt worked once I moved the buckle so the belt moved freely, with a little spray of silicone, so Im selling the one I brought,

And just a little thought for the day. "Dont fix your car angry ...... ,a lot of plastic trim is very brittle and easily snapped" LOL

if it's the seatbelt in the backseat, it's the reel of the belt that's broken for sure if it doesn't retract properly. try to remove the plastic trim on the side and remove the nut of the belt reel, and then you pull the belt all the way for you to see the plastic reel then inspect it. the plastic reel looks so brittle and easy to break. mine's broken both left and right rear, but i got a pair from the wrecker and changed it. all good now.

There's a good chance that theres a twist in the webbing behind the trim panel,so just untwist it.second thing it could be is a buildup of dirt under the top hanger where the webbing goes though.clean off and spray it with a silicon spray.
