It's a case of how long's a piece of string?

If its just a re-gas shouldnt be more than about $130. If you need the receiver/dryer done, add another $150ish. If the compressor is gone, will be 1200 ish, maybe a bit less, assuming you're getting new parts.

My air con died about 2 weeks ago too, black car + no air con = me dying a little bit every day. My compressor clutch decided to crap itself, also took out the fuse which also happens to provide 12v constant to air flow meter, needless to say car wasn't running to well.

Local auto sparkies have quoted me about $800 for new compressor, drier, gas and install.

yes you will need the receiver drier done. it MUST be replaced every time the system is opened/serviced.

it only takes two drops of water to render it useless.

A re-gas only should be $150-$200 depending on the shop and what they replace. As mentioned above the receiver/dryer must be replaced when the system is opened. Aircon gas doesn't "run out" rather it leaks out somewhere. So make sure they check for leaks first before re-gassing, otherwise you're wasting your money as the gas will just leak out again.

My compressor recently died so i got some quotes and checked eBay etc.

    I had three options...

    Option 1
$95 - $150 Second hand compressor from a wreckers (price varies)
    $200 Re-gas including receiver/dryer & seals including labour (local a/c shop)

    Option 2
$345 - $399 New aftermarket compressor (off eBay, depending on seller)
    $200 Re-gas, receiver/dryer & seals including labour (local a/c shop)

    Option 3
$900 New genuine compressor + re-gas, receiver/dryer, seals & fitting including labour (local a/c shop)

I decided to go with option 3 thanks to some kind relatives giving me a loan!

Autobarn quoted me $50 for a new dryer, and Holden regassed my system for $77. They gased it, valves stuck open and gas started leaked, so they evacuated the system and regassed it, all for $77.

I just bought a brand new aircon compressor off ebay last week 4 $349 that also came with new drier and o rings but also free shipping n thats wat sealed the deal 4 me. They r easy as 2 install urself, i found that the drier was the hardest thing lol coz u had 2 take out ur grills 2 get it in there rather than the whole bar

    slipperypizza is the ebay dude.

retail for a brand new genuine (delphi) is under 400..

    a reciever/drier is 12 bucks

wrx884 i hope the system was vacc'd straight after fitting the drier... only last 15 minutes from being opened before theyre considered stuffed.. and 24 hours after being vacc'd before being gased...

sure was not by me tho as im not qualified 2 d that lol

i also steered clear from genuine 2 as these were known 2 have alot problems and u cant get replaceable parts in the compressors.
