My vx-s series 2 has genuine holden ss foglights installed and the previous owner hardwired them to the parkers.. i know this isnt the way its supposed to b wired but i cbf running the foggies to their own switch just yet. I only noticed the other day that 1 of my fog lights arent working.. I check fuses/globe and nothing seems to b wrong there.. but my parker lights are working just fine.. Im guessing its the wiring somewhere.
Help please
yeah well i would just start from the back of the broken fog light and trace my way with its cable up until it connects to the parker its on.
It's probs bound to be a stuffed cable.
The whole 'wiring the fog lights up to the parker lights' sounds a bit dodge to me ahah

wiring the fog lights to the parker is the correct way to do then as the lower the light is to the road the better it is to see through the fog .............however the law states that you must not drive around with your fog lights on unless there is fog ,therefore it MUST be run off of a separate switch
Get a simple test light (a globe with 2 wires soldered on is good enough ) however a cheap one can be bought from a spare parts place for under $10
turn parkers on ,earth your test light and touch your positive on the wire of the light that does not work
just because the globe looks ok it it not always the case ( I replaced one of mine today ....looked fine however did not work ),
umm... foglights MUST be wired highbeam only. and they can be used in any inclement weather that lowers visability, not just fog. that's why these days they are commonly also known as driving lights. but if a copper sees foggies/driving lights on when you only got parkers on... you'll be stuffed. i'm 100% sure on this. foggies definitely not wired on parkers... they would even knock you back on next pink slip (if the guy even checks that is).
but definitely follow ausrs test tips. test actual globe- just because its 'looks' right doesnt mean it is.
an easier first test would be to swap over globes left to right. if the globe is the problem, you'll know straight away. if both no longer work, you know its wiring.
learn something new every day! i always thought foglights were yellow, because white light doesnt go through fog very well. doing a little google search and there's actually quite a few studies that show light colour makes no difference- it's actually the pattern on the lens. my bad... it's just that I see so many VT's with white 'fog' lights, I thought they were driving lights.
try living in Wollongong and driving to Sydney up the mountain .......fog is a fact of life !
I used to think fog lights were all yellow as well ,high beam and fog just do not mix ,it just reflects off of the fog and you see even less
the way most manufacturers mount the fog lights (very low on the car ) and with a very narrow beam of light (reflector) it actually gets below the fog ..that's what i think anyway .....whatever it is it works well !
as far as driving around with them on ..............there are many many idiots out there![]()
