Hi all, im considering buying a VT Calais with a Gen 3, has around 227k and asking price seems quite good, i asked if there were any knocks in the engine on cold start up, and owner says theres a slight knock on start up but thats normal for the early Gen 3's and doesnt affect it in any way, also it supposedly does not use any oil, so my question is would i be taking a risk buying this thing? Also its the original motor.
For the record i have owned a VT II and VX II with Gen 3's, the VX was excellent, the VT while not burning any oil, was so unreliable i ended up just getting rid of it, hence my concerns lol.
Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks.

I would want to hear it for myself. I would be wary of any slight knock.

Default Be wary - my 2 bobs worth

That's a helluva lot of k's even for a 2nd hand car. I bought my '02 VU II SS LS1 ute recently & the advice I got from anyone in the know is do your research & be patient when searching for the general's finest with LOW k's. My ute had a couple of minor cosmetic defects but only had 68,000 k's which is my point. I wound up haggling the price down so you never know what you can find out there

Thats correct, do the research on the vehicle of interest, as a high K's car well looked after can be in better nick, and cheaper, than a low K's , more expensive, vehicle which has had a pimply faced 'P' plater thrash the bejesus out of it doing burnouts etc to show his mates how clever he is!

For those p'platers that ACTUALLY CARE about their cars
(or, like mine, their mothers check the tyres and pin up newspaper clippings on their walls everytime theres a p'plater accident), I'd like to think i take damn good care of my car...
