Hey everyone, i am looking at a 2002 WH Caprice 5.7 tomorrow with only 75xxx kms on it. Just wondering if there is any known problems or if i should be wary of any particular aspect of the engine as i have heard there can be all sorts of problems with the gen3. Thanks
A great car, you will be happy with it.
The only problem I've had is the oil pressure sensor ( a very common problem) and the rubber joints on the PVC hoses perishing. Apart from that, all's well.
MY RIDE
I thought I was wrong once but I was mistaken.
i cant even fault those things, and 75xxxkm is rreally good! i drive all round the country so my 02 wh hit 240,xxx today and is still fine
Going where no late model stato/caprice has gone before.... GAME ON!!
Generally a Caprice is not a car that is thrashed, as mostly older people own them. (well compared to SS's or Clubsport's).
75xxx kms on it is extremely good for a 2002 model. I bought my 2001 model Caprice at the start of the year with 217xxx on it and it goes awesome. I had it dyno'ed and it put out 239kws at the flywheel when it is only 220kws from factory, and it was completely stock.
My point is that 5.7ltr's are generally a strong motor, and with the low kms and (hopefully) older previous driver, you should have an awesome car there. Perfect for some nice mods...
Rear main seal leaks, leaks from the heads, gearbox leaks....list goes on, mainly the same issues with most commodores =)
