Sort of, Head gaskets alone are about $1000, then the work etc needed and chances are you will need to get the heads machined. How many K's are on it? Any work done to it?
If it's not a Symptom its not relevant, and if its not relevant I don't care!

My plan was to just drop another motor in it,i have a friend that is a wrecker and can get a motor for $400.Not sure on the klms and it just looks like the family car.
Will have a look at it again tomorrow as i know a young bloke looking for his first car and i think its just what he wants. He also has 3G to spend.

Well in that case, I would probably snatch it up. Or maybe even try and talk them down some more, you can only try. $400 Sounds about right for another motor. Not all that hard to put in providing you have the right equipment lol.

Lol, the total work might cost $500-600 including gaskets and labour, but no way $1000 just for the gaskets, they are the cheapest part of the whole debacle.

If the car is in good condition other then the engine its a good deal, but after the work you will put into it will it be worth a $2000-2500 similiar vt ? Messing around replacing engines is not a cheap exercise if you do it properly, there are always extra costs that arise.

sounds like you couldn't go too wrong.
Even if the engine is stuffed, as said just pick another complete engine up from the wrecker.
