Found signs of coolant in the oil, and vice-versa. Looks like the heads are going to have to come off. Any tips or hints?
Thanks in advance,
Tim
PS - It is V6. Also saw posts saying let a mechanic do it. I've done heads before. This doesn't look that bad, at least it's not DOHC.
didnt get the engine to hot when you did the gasket did you, changing the heads isnt to hard its more of what happened to the engine is it worth doing again or just changing the motor.
last head that i blew i went and got machined and within 1500kms it blew again seems that when i got the engine hot i caused some internal cracking in the alloy heads that i had and also i managed scorch the block which was also machined etc.
even though everything was machined and checked they didnt pick up on the internal cracking untill they had them xray tested thats when the bloke said just bin the engine and start again.
i spent over 5 grand rebuilding the engine and heads and ended up throwing it in the bin as it would only happen again due to the heat damage from the first instance
brought a 1000 dollar engine from the wreckers and it went with the car when i got rid of it and never missed abeat.
Many people have had to replace head gaskets. No need to bin the engine.
Only advice I can offer mate is get your hands on a Gregory's or similar manual, and take your time. Oh and have a few coldies handy too.

Im fixing my engine at the moment, busted head gasket apparently, I hope thats all thats wrong with it. Mechanic said the compression in 2 of the cylinders was really low and water was mixing with the oil which indicates a busted head gasket. Im about to pull the heads off now, broke a socket trying to take them off, will buy stronger ones tomorrow...
The only problem Ive encountered is the fuel pipes, which are attached to the firewall, need a special tool to remove them, I just cut them and Ill reattach them using large pipes around the outside and some clamps, there are 3 of them to worry about....also some of the electrical connectors are hard to remove/get to and took a while to disconnect all of them.

Thanks for the replies. As far as I know nothing terrible has happened to the engine. I think is just gasket failure...
I have the manual, so I'll take it easy. Cold ones will be essential, especially with the weather the way it is.
