hi guys, as usual the book is crap! how do you do the rear wheel bearing on an IRS vt ?![]()
Which book?
I like my roo well done
![]()
gregorys book
time and patience
u want to do them at home?
u need to drop the axles, trailing arms, remove the handbrake cable, shocks, calipers and rotors. with the whole assembly remove from the vehicle, undo the couple of hex nuts (going of memory) crack the hub and u should see the bearing, u'll need to remove the old one, and when putting/sliding on the new one becareful not to **** the new bearing.
reassemble and ur done
thats the gist of it.. ohh, use the gregory's as a guide. whats crap about it?
What makes you sure that the bearings need to be replaced. The reason I ask is that I recently paid $1300 to get the rear bearings replaced in my wife's Clubsport only to find that the noise that I thought was rear wheel bearings was really coming from the rear tyres !!!
what makes me think its the rear wheel bearings is: 1 - 297000 kms. 2 - you can hear the noise starting up once you reach about 40 kmph . 3- it comes from the rear corners of the car,, drivers side being the loudest. 4 c- if it was the diff the sound would change when you come on and off the gas pedal. 5 - you drive along at 60kmph, you can hear it, you pull handbrake up SLOWLY, a couple of clicks... no change in noise, so its not the handbrake.
On the Gregorys book.... It tell you special tools are required. take it to a well equipped work shop for service. They make it sound like brain surgery!
be your rotors mate making that noise
ive only ever seen one rear wheel bearing replaced and that was in a VS that was in an accident, pretty sure the bearing needs to be pressed/ pulled out with a puller... not a fun job.
make sure its not your tyres making that noise too, scalloped tyre edges cause bearing like noises too
