It threw the main front belt a few days ago (bits of belt caught everywhere) and so I replaced both the main belt the A/C beltbehind it while I was at it, but now I've noticed the A/C now doesn't work.
The green A/C light on the switch comes on, but the compressor doesn't engage, nor does rad fan.
If I short out the A/C Relay in the enginebay fusebox the compressor and fan does come on, and the air starts blowing cold again so I don't think its a compressor fault. I've swapped the relays around to rule out the relay. I only left it on a few seconds just to confirm it appears to work.
I'm begining to think its a conincidence and that system might just be low on gas (never been serviced or recharged). Is there way to confirm this?
There seems to sensor under the recharge point, it has 3 wires, anybody have a pinout of those or know if a combination of pins can be shorted to trick the thing to come on, confiming the low gas theory?
Also, is there a Fuse for the A/C system? I can't seem to find one in either the engine bay of cabin fuseboxes.
If it worked and then it didnt after the belt came off i wouuld be looking for a damaged wire at or near the compressor, either the power wires to start the compressor or the HP / LP switch.
some cars have a sight glass at the reciver / drier but this is not the best way to check the gas charge.
The only time you need a regas is if
1 you have remoived the gas to carry out work on the system
2 have no gas which means you have a leak and you need to find it first
The gas does not where out.
As I said, I can force it to run by shorting out the A/C Relay, so it is bound to be something electrical or sensor related. I didn't really expect that a belt could cut its way through anything, but I guess a few minutes of flailing fibres can act like a weedeater cord.
I looked a bit closer at the conduits that pass near/over the belt path (it was the main belt that failed). Underneath the air intake pipe I found a bit where the belt seems to have chomped its way through the conduit and found an exposed/cut wire. The only wires in the that section are air temp sensor and a/c pressure so failure sure that will be it. Will solder them back together![]()
