I have recently purchased a VX 2000 Executive - 146,000 kms. I have noticed a few small 'surges' when driving along and now a humming noise persists when the car is running. Someone has told me that it is the fuel pump - the noise is not very loud at present. Can anyone suggest how long this could go on for before it becomes a problem? Should I just go to the Holden Dealer and get a new pump fitted before I have a problem? thanks beryl
What sort of humming is I dude it can be alot of things a recorded could help or just take it down to your local mechanics and go WTF is the noise
Before you start the car, put the ignition on just before you turn it over and listen to hear if the pump starts up, you might need to put a window down or get someone else to do it and listen near the fuel tank.
If thats the sound and its on fairly loud while driving, then you might be up for a replacement pump. I recall they are like $250-300 but its a bit of a prick to change it. Especially the fact you are dealing with an open fuel tank too when you do it, lots of risks there.
And with the surging it can be the pump, it can also be a blocked fuel filter.
But the cheapest check is the fuel filter, they can get blocked very easy after a bad tank of fuel.
