Hi, i just bought a vx clubby and everything is standard on it from factory, tinted windiws are getting done next week and it really needs an exhaust!! sooo quiet. what would you recommend???
nothing can go past a di filippo twin 3 inch there not cheap but you will go through every different exhaust system looking for the rite sound BUT di filippo is the sound your hunting for , as for extractors go pacies or di filippo and any 3 inch high flow cats will do

i would say only go twin 3 if your planning on camming it otherwise the twin 2.5 is fine
whys that mate , my missis mafless tuned clubby made more HP with a twin 3 inch then it did with the twin 2.5 both exhaust systems were di filippo ......

im not sure about camming it probly just mafless tune and that might be it. i found a 3" di filippo exhaust on ebay for 1600 cat back, the headers to match and cats are another 1800, could i use pacemaker headers and cats and it will still bolt up ok?
yeah mate i use pacemaker 1 7/8 headers , 200 cpi high flow cats and di filippo exhaust
here is a exhaust video , even though mine is head and cam you get the idea

a few mates who put the twin 3 as well as getting bigger extractors before putting the cam in down low was just sluggish to how it was before but changed when the cam was put in
i agree mate but you get what u pay for i have had exhausts that sound as good as di filippo but the quality is terrible and dont last and rub on the body or floor or both i have used di filippo for years now and never had a drama , and my mates di filippo the muffler had a tiny split and di filippo replaced the whole sytem free of chargeso to me its not a big price to pay for a good quality product

x-force do a well priced 2.5inch twin system cat back![]()
1999 LS1 VT SS
1991 VN V6 T5 Commodore
x-force are really thin walled and sound horrid they drone like hell and most of the sound exits the pipe before it reaches the rear of the car

I would have to agree with H1GHROLLR on the xforce i have one on the xu6 and it sounds like shit in the car, drones like crazy but it doesnt sound to bad when your up it from outside.
Dyno figures are higher with a free flowing exhaust. You want the best dyno figure? Remove your exhaust completely. Driveability suffers with too large a system. A twin 3" Sounds good, but you will lose a bit of bottom end on an unopened engine. A 2 1/2" twin will work better.
I can do you a good price on a Manta system.
i havent heard of a manta system what are they like noise wise, i guess what i really want is an exhaust to give it that v8 rumble. i had a stainless d&t on my v6 vt before this car which cost me 1900 and there was alot of in car noise which was a pain!
cmon highrollr if u do get what u pay for then i got a twin 2.5" catback for 650hahaha sounds ok tho! go to my ride thread dude just to give u an idea of what my combo sounds like,
its 1 3/8 pacemaker headers,
200cpsi pacemaker cats
and a twin 2.5" with the rear mufflers removed. mild steel
all up i think that was about ~2400
pacies being the most expensive
Mate, As you've probably guessed by the varying posts there are many many different combinations and options for exhausts. It will depend on FIRSTLY
- YOUR BUDGET.
- What you intend to do with the car in the future?
- What sort of sound you're looking for?
(...and that is likely to change in time as well!)
- How cop friendly or attention grabbing do you want it?
- Sound is subjective, loudness is very subjective.
Based on the very limited information you have given us (and everyone geniunely wants to give you an opinion and help you out) then I would say a twin 2.5inch exhaust will be what you NEED assuming you will either keep it as a Bolt-on or even small cammed car. A twin 3 - Di Fillipo will probably sound good but will - A. Be very expensive B. Loud. And if you add a cam to that it will get even louder. Good for the friends, not so good for your neighbours or Local constabulary when they pull you over and defect you because your car can be heard three blocks away. Depends on where you live and what the Local cops will tolerate I guess. and how you drive and how much of a cop magnet your car looks like.
Price wise - cheapest place - eBay (or even HSV YII extractors). Most expensive options Manta and Di Fillipo followed by Pacemaker. The guys with the most expensive stuff may have a good reason why they splashed out on an expensive systems, some will pay for sound no matter what the costs, they need a top notch system because they're pumping lots of Kw through it, some will pay for a brand name and some will pay for a quality system because they will own their car for a million years - everyone has different requirements. SHOP AROUND, the price even on the same sytems will vary considerably between places!
As a very rough guide:
Catbacks give you sound and a little extra power ($400-$1300)
Extractors give you power and torque and sound quality (beaty V8 sound) ($600-$1500)
Cats give you a little extra power and even better, less muffled, quality sound ($500-$700)
The next most expensive component in the exhaust system after the extractors will be the Cats. At the Bolt-on stage buying a set of $600 cats will give you very small gain but will add to the sound quality especially if you buy long tube 4-1's like Di Fillipo or Pacemaker, which might I add are the most expensive extractors on the market. Which if an extra Kw or two really means alot to you then go for it. If you're on a budget or pragmatic about Bang for Buck there are other options. If you're seriously modding in the future then the expensive extractors will make more sense. 1 3/4 Primaries will be more than adeqaute for a Bolt on or smaller cammed LS1. 1 7/8 primaries will be better for supercharged or bigger cammed cars. Even then on an LS1 1 7/8 primaries are pretty big and you will lose low down torque - again depends on your application, future mods and supporting gear (diff etc)
Most people do it in stages - more cost effective and gives you time to determine what you want and need.
-Buy a Catback - enjoy the newfound sound
-Sell your HSV extractors and buy some aftermarket ones...
- if you're still want more power - get some 100cpsi cats
...then a 3.9 diff ratio, then a mafless tune...then a cam....then a bigger cam...then a strocker...then a supercharger...then twin turbos.....and then sell your car after you've spent a Ferrari money it !!![]()
thanks for the run down, i dont plan on doing any major engine mods to it maybe just a mafless tune and otr, plan is to get windows tinted next week, exhaust i think i will go cat back for now, then a sunroof in another months time. is there really that much difference between stainless and mild steel?
watch out for the mod bug once it bites, you never get rid of it
