i seen somewhere ,a step by step ,how to change the inletmanifold gaskets ,by of course looked through serch, arcives lol not to be found can eny body help thanks![]()
i took the inlet manifold off mine today. followed the instructions in the manual, not that bad at all. disconnect or remove battery, de-pressurise fule system. drain radiator. take off cover. disconnect all wires, hoses, pipes etc (use the right tool for fuel and vapour lines). remove spark plug leads alternator and associated bits (tensioner, brackets etc). remove MAF unit (the thing between throttle body and filter box) - watch for wires. remove all bolts holding the manifold down. remove manifold gently - don't damage machined surfaces. try to take it out and see that you missed some wires and exhaust gas recirculation pipe. there are things hidden at the back. i found taking off the ignition units made it easier to free the manifold.
also, i cleaned the whole engine particulary the manifold area, with degreaser first. two reasons: i hate working on dirty engines and to keep any crap out of the engine.
took me about three hours - i'm not fast and was taking it carefully. this time included cleaning, getting tools out etc.
good luck - not too hard a job at all. much easier than working on my celica.

ps what i don't know is how you torque the bolts correctly when you reassemble it. there is very tight access to the bolts, not enough room for a torque wrench unless you remove everything off the manifold. a
Any suggestions?

thanks for the info, bestuffed if i can find the step by step post ,it was very good
I'm starting to put it back together. I decided to take the air plenum chamber and injectors off as well. Three reasons - I was worried about damaging the injectors while cleaning the manifold and I wanted to clean the throttle body and the chamber. I also figured it would be easer to put the manifold back and torque the bolts - but that's going to be guess work as the book says 8-10 NM, which is outside the accurate range of my wrench.
If you are concerned about doing things wrong, take photos at every stage - details of what you are disconnecting etc.
in my manual "max ellerys" it saysi intake manifold attaching bolts 12-18nm
