Default VT VX front shock absober and power steering pump remove replace

    hi guys

i thought i would share a few thoughts in removing a shock absober in a vt and removing a powersteering pump in a vt. i have a damage vx commodore so swaping the good and bad one before send to wreckers

    1. shock absober.

--remember vt/vx front shock has 2 nuts on top one to secure the spring and one to hold it in the top par of the wheel arch. so you can take to top nut out and remove the shock without using coil spring compressors--- but its alway safe to use one when you remove a shock to be safe

    heres the method

1.1 undo the top bolt with a 24 ring spanner and 10 spanner (do not take it off completely)

1.2 remove the link between the stabilizer bar front shock (vt had 2 bush ends - vx has one top bush and a ball joint connecting the stab bar. you need (14mm, 5/8inch lock wrench )

1.3 remove the tow big bolts in the wheel hub keep a support or a jack under the disk to
hold it - sometimes you need to take top bolt in the brake caliper to take the big bolt out (need 19mm 22mm ring spanner and schocket)
also there is a 8mm adjustment in the wheel hub ( like a hex nut) connecting the bottom part of the shock this need to be loosed to put the shock and once its in tighten the bolt

1.4 unhook the brake hose by turning it and pushing it and pull out the other wire

1.5 remove the top bolt completely off the shock whole holding it so it wouldn't fall down

1.6 reverse the same procedure to but the new shock back.

1.7 remember how the bushes are put together when you remover the stab bar link - its always good to draw a diagram and put them in the link the way how they came out so when you put them back its easy- there are 4 rubber bushes and 8 big and small washers in the vt and in the vx theres only the top bush and washer set

1.8 its easy in the vt to put the bottom bush set so they align well and then push the top in the shock fianly- might require some force to do this or use the jack to push the disk up so theres enough space to get the top part of the stab ling to the shock.

1.9 remember to slide the brake hose and the wire to the shock

    - if you have new shocks --- put the shock in a vise -- use a col spring compressor, two of them on oppersit side to loose and take the coil spring out -- undo the top bolt--- remember how all the pieces are connected ( draw a diagram is nesensory) -- put new shock and reverse process.

2.how to remove power steering pump

all nuts and bolts are removed the same way (remove = counterclockwise) you might need to take the radiator hose the top one and push it out of the way to make room

1.1 loose the 4 10mm nuts in the power steering pump (PSP) pulley- if the belt slip or turn while undoing the bolts all pleasure to the belt push it or lock one pulley ( do not take the bolts out completey)

1.2 use a 15mm spanner to push the belt tensioner counterclock wise to remove the engine/ fan belt

1.3 remover the PSP pulley by removing all the 10mm bolts

1.4 i think you have to use a 14mm or a 15mm spanner to undo the steel hose in the back of the PSP pump - might be bit tight make sure its not damaged when removing - very important

1.5 undo the hose connecting the PSP pump - use a bottle to catch the PS fluid

1.6there are two bolts in the front of the pump which hold the PSP to the engine bock- undo the bolts using a 14mm or 15mm shocket (cant remember the size)

1.7 remove the PSP and do the same to put a new one in.

hope this helps - sorry i didn't have any pictures
i am a uni student and this is my first time doing this jobs and it went smoothly

    level of difficulty - 8/10

fount shock remove - 30mins and 30 mins to put back - so a 2 hour job to remove and replace
PSP remove 30 mins to 1 hour - so about 1 and a half hour job to remove and replace
