    Default Water Pump? Gen3

    Happy new year all......

Well My VT SS Gen3 started the new year with water leaking fast out of the overflow, so something has gone a missm been told by holden a few times the water pump is about to go, so I take it that's what it is.

So for this novice wanting to safe money & do it himself, is there any how to's out there, best place to pick up a waterpump, is it wise to use an aftermarket one... or a thread here on it as I could not find much.

As I came close to falling off my chair when I got a quote from holden to do it.

Any help would be much appreciated & needed.

    Cheers

Well for a Replacement water pump, they range from $200 and up for a after market. Not sure how good they would be, but i have a after market (something brand) water pump on my V6, does the job.
As for replacing it im not sure on the V8, Would say would be similar process to the V6. As taking off the belt, drain old coolant, remove pully from water pump, then remove support bolts, im not sure though.

Would recommend to pick up a repair manual while you are at it, only 50 bucks

It's something stupid like 6 bolts, 3 hose clamps and that's it.

Priced one up at work on friday and they wanted $400odd for the genuine Holden part

It never goes as simple as you want it. I replaced the shocks in the VR, First one came out, ok, went to put the new one in, auto barn gave me ones for IRS not solid diff, so 40 mins later back with the right ones, ok, first one in all good, then the second one, the top tip snapped off, then had to drive to my dads for a angle grinder to get it off. 20 min job turned into 3 hours
