Hey guys,
Thinking about trading my VZ SV6 (selling, whatever) for a V8.
Was looking at some VX SS's, quite like the look of them aesthetically.
Was wondering if there is anything I should be looking for problem wise, and what price range do you think a reasonable one would be?
If I can only get 18-19 for mine then I'll be looking VX SS (dont like the VY's for some unknown reason), but if I'm lucky to scratch out 21-22, I'll probably spend 4-5k of me own dosh and buy a VZ SS/HSV VZ.
Thanks guys
P.S. Has to be 6-speed Manual, and I can be a bit fussy with mods, i.e mine's got leather interior, so would prefer leather again
Thanks mate
Woooppss....link says account has been suspended....
Yes i went to use this link the other day, anyone got these faults anywhere else?
From memory with the VX SS, the faults were basically the engine related, shutter & a few other things. everything else was pretty well sorted.
I have seen some good condition VX SSs around for 15-16, so if you get 18 or so to spend should get quite a nice ride. My dad sold the VY ss with leather 3 years back for 25k with only 45k on it and was show room condition.
I know there was a recall with some of the VX SS Engines, and required them to be rebuilt or replaced. The problems that have been mentioned is piston slap and oil pressure switch. But if its has over 100,000 on, it would either had been rebuilt or was not affected by these problems. and make sure it has full service history.
I recently purchased my VX SS for $25k. Series 2 (so the rear suspension issues were fixed), red leather interior, sunroof, 4 airbags, and a lot of engine/drivetrain mods.
Errol's VX Sleeper
There are a few nice models around the $17-20k mark, with lowish kms (under 150,000km), manual, leather interior and possibly sunroof if your lucky.
I personally think they are the best model holden ever released (at least in terms of looks). With the usual mods (OTRCAI, MAFless, CAM + Exhaust) you should be making ~275rwkw with a nice note. However i did find stock VX SSs were pretty poor to drive (stock brakes are weak, FE2 suspension is a little soft) so perhaps budget for a few upgrades?
But in terms of problems... try to get a series II. As the Series I had the rear camber issues. As the VX is essentially a face lifted VT, by series 2 they had fixed almost all the problem and were pretty reliable.
EDIT - Your fairly local, if you like i can show you my ride. Might even let you test drive it for a few beers![]()
LOL Hahaha.
Thanks for the info mate, once I've decided whether I want to part with my car, I might take you up on that offer. Had a look at your ride, pretty sweet, musta put in a lotts $$$ into it.
Brakes would always need upgrading on stock V8's though, and I guess the suspension comes down to preference.
But yeah, I'll take all of it on board, and if I do go ahead with it, will let you know.
Thanks![]()
Try to get a Series 2 for the revised rear suspension, listen for piston slap however it shouldnt be an issue but just listen for it nontheless.
Other than that just the usual second hand car checks.
I picked my SS up for 12500 6 months or so ago, Series 2, Black, Manual with mods. When I was looking they were still up around the 15+ mark, some of them are down around the 13 mark now. I found it difficult to find any manuals, but the 6 speed is worth the extra hunting.
go for a series 2 for sure and i wouldnt pay more than 15k for one even with manual, leather and sunroof and if you can get 18-19 for the svz that would be amazing cos ive seen tham go for 15 ish more to spend on a good ss
