My Arial will no longer retracts. This was previously fixed under warranty and I was told the nylon cord that drives this up and down was broken. I am guessing this is a common problem. Does anyone know how the how to replace the arial?
save youself some grief and just replace the entire assembly, costs more but a lot less grief
I'm in the same boat.. Rough ideas of how much it will cost to replace the entire aerial as you said lout?
whole new aftermarket aerial is $120-150.
a new mast is $30-40
full antenna is easier to replace, but hell of a lot more costly. i replace either at work for $50 labour.
the mast can be a bastard to change, but with some patience, isnt too hard
Power antenna repair (sucks) have a look here , i replaced mine took about an hour because i forgot to take out a broken piece of the nylon rope and it was getting stuck so make sure you chek first before fitting the replacement .
there are three types of people in the world , those who can count and those who can't
i broke my arial on a bloody tree , just replaced it with the old coat hanger lol, lucky its not a power arial
What they dont tell you is HOW to dismantle the mast from the main motor body. True it is not real easy but once you know how its ok.
1.There are two screws on the base of the mast tube. Remove these and then remove the clamp plate "C" shaped fixed to the motor retaining screw
2. Spray some WD40 on the tube stubb and then "work" the tube until it comes out of the plastic antenna housing. This will expose the base of the mast including the inner plastic sleeve, the white bit fitted to the base of the mast (remove) with small bladed screwdriver as it is required in the new mast.
3. Also you must remove the metal sleeve under the chrome nut at the upper end of the lower mast piece. It WILL come out after some WD40 and slidding back and forth.
4. Reassemble with new mast in reverse order.
5.Refit antenna back into vehicle.
Note: On the VT you must remove the LH foot well panel and the computer housing to get access to the antenna co-ax connector so that you can remove the antenna assembly from the LH under guard mountng.
Good luck
Thanks for your help on this guys. I think I'll buy the whole unit as suggested.
