Just picked up a VX Acclaim Series 2 wagon, but the pedal seems really spongey. Don't know whether this is typical for this model with ABS or indicative of an issue. Can anyone advise whether the ABS affects the pedal feel?
Cheers.
Depends on what car you've been driving in the past...No ABS does not affect the feel of the pedal. The ABS will only ever activate under a set of conditions, otherwise its just the usual pneumatic brake. Check your brake oil levels and your brake pump is working. It might be worth taking it to a mechanic and have them check your brake pads if you needed new ones, and maybe to change the brake fluid and bleed the lines again if its needed.
That was my assumption, just wanted to make sure it wasn't a 'peculiarity' of the VX Acclaim.
If you have a spongy pedal, this generally indicates there is air in the system. Bleed each wheel cylinder (furtherest from master first eg, back L/H, back R/H, front L/H, front R/H) and see if this fixes the problem.
Ensure there is plenty of correct fluid in the reservoir while doing this.
