hi all ,i have a 98 commodore berlina, about 2 weeks ago it started blowing grey smoke , and now its begining to misfire, and also has a noise near the water pump, any suggestions , the car is blowing smoke not steam, i could change the water pump but i dont think it will fix the problem, i love me commy but hate the probs.......any advice will help...
Could be anything, but its not your water pump. Possibilities are gasket is cracked or broken, piston ring is cracked, dirty oil etc. Probably quicker and easier to take it to a mechanic and get them to sort it out for you.
thanks for the help buddy , i will do that
he could not find the reason for the grayish smoke, but has told me the water pump has had it
Does it use water or pressurize the cooling system?
no its not losing any fluid,or overheating, but the water pump is noisey, the mech told me to try the water pump first, and all this came on at the same time, but really i dont see how this would be creating gray smoke ,but then again stranger things have happened, the car has done 280,000 kms, ill just change the pump firstly and see what happens, probably do it tommorrow, if that dont work....mmmmm, dont really wanna spend $1200 on a second hand engine supply and fitted if the problem is easy fixed lol, but yes it is a commy
