hay everyone just wondering about my 02 sensor and if it needs replacing dont know much about it so if u have a quetion about my car ill answer u lol hope that makes sense thanks heaops cheers matty
You won't know if your oxygen sensors are working or not without graphing them on an oscilloscope or using special tools. They rarely give fault codes, and unfortunately give few symptoms when old or dead, other than giving poor emissions from the exhaust.
Generally oxygen sensors get lazy after about 120 000km, or earlier if bad fuel or other chemical is allowed to poison them (engine oil, coolant, some silicon sealants). In both cases they need to be replaced at this time.
ok well my car has 180+ ks on it and i have owned it since aroud 175+ks how much am i looking at for a new 02 sensor??
Depends what type you have. You will either have 2 wire or 4 wire, with 4 wire being more expensive.
Call you local auto place for a quote.
I got 2 wire sensors for about $40 each, I think 4 wire are more than double this.
How do you find out which ones you have? I have a S1 VT acclaim, for instance. Where do i look for them on the car?
in the exhaust pipe under the car.
ok well i currently own a 1999 vt calais i dont have it with me atm but if i rang my mate whos got it were whould he llok to find it???
One on each engine pipe not far down from each manifold. Next to the bell housing. Will have either two or four wires going into it.
Where do i get them new and cheap from? Mine might be the cause for my awful economy.
ok going to replace mine where the best place to get em (ebay, holden dealer, auto sparkey)
ring around mate, when i did the vr mine were cheaper from a autolecky, but that was mates rates too :P, give cyril harris auto spares in maryborough a ring he was cheap by memory
only really need to do it if your engine light comes on or you have really bad economy my engine light came on every few minutes when mine shot cant remember how much it was to fix
