I have a 1999 VT Berlina Automatic which has 140,000km.
I bought the car cheap and i wish i didnt with the things i have had to fix. However i looked at the radiator fluid and it was a horrible brown dirty water looking color. So i bought a new radiator and new hoses and had them installed. I refilled the new radiator with the new hoses and the temperature is perfect like it was before i changed it. I also put new air filter and oil filter changed the engine oil and also the gear box and diff oil.
My two questions are:
1. I need a very strong degreaser as the old radiator had a crack in it and has made a mess in the engine bay.
2. When i looked at the new radiator there is so dark color build up under the cap and when i have stuck my finger into the radiator once i have taken the cap off i can feel it
any feedback will be appreciated
Thanks
is the dark colour in the bottom of the cap or in the radiator? What exactly can you feel? The caps do discolour as they are brass. It may be something that is put into the radiator for storage? Did you use radiator flush before the final coolant fill?
If it's not engine oil don't worry just flush it when due.
Degreaser I'd use kerosene in a tim with a kitchen sink scrubbing brush but dont drown the electrics in it or let it sit for too long before hosing it all off. An alkaline one will pit your aluminuim.
It on the bottom of the cap (the cap is new also) and yes when i put my finger as far down the radiator that i can i rub the side and a black oil looking comes of the sides.
We took the old radiator out and rinsed out as much as we could and installed the new radiator and filled it with new fluid. I still have the radiator flush that i got given when i bought the new radiator fluid.
There is no milky looking and the oil in the engine is fine.
Also my Climate Control Display the lights some work some dont are they hard to change and whats the best way to do it ?
