Looks like the EGR pipe is broke.
I too will say EGR pipe. Dont know how you broke it though??? Should be able to pick that pipe up from the wreckers quite cheap, only the VX and VYs, I think, will have it (that particular piece) , maybe Series 2 VTs as well. Couple of bolts and your away.

Yeah my VTii has it. noticed it yesterday while messing with the alternator..
hay all i was just down checking it ou and it only had the bolt on the end but it lookls like it shouldbe conected to my extractors but its not i had the racq guy come out and he pointed out where it was surppose to be connected to but i has been welded shut. I crimped it shut but i dunno is it surrpose to be connected to my extractors?? or just sealed shut and what excatly does it do
It's part of your pollution equipment.
The EGR pipe connects to the extractors, under strict conditions (in manual and I couldn't be screwed looking for it) the EGR valve puts exhaust gases back into the intake manifold, this apparently reduces the temp of the combustions, probably by less oxygen.
If you have extractors there will be a section where you can screw it on too. Now I BELIEVE that since most extractors for the Ecotec fit VTs-VYs, and that the early model VTs didn't have EGR valves. So the extractors come from factory without the hole and you just drill it out.
Now if they haven't drilled it out, then the car should still work fine, just remove the wires to the EGR valve otherwise when those certain conditions are met, the computer will open the solenoid and you will have a massive air leak from the manifold = bad.
Now I may have just said a whole lot of crap, but I'm mostly sure I'm right. Just check if there are any holes in the extractors for the EGR pipe to fit, if not you should be away.
What I want to know is why it blew in the first place? Was there a massive backfire when it blew?

dont really know no back fire just one of my hoes below off the back of my engine no damage just a smiple put back on thing Racq did that for me ok when i put it in for a service ill get the guy to fix it for me whould ther be any resson at all why this would be sealed on the pipe and welded shut on the extractors
Like I typed, I believe not all VTs had EGR valves, so they don't put the hole in the extractors, you just drill it out when you fit the extractors if you do have an EGR. I have no idea why it would be sealed on the pipe. Possible weak spot, may have let it blow. Possibly sealed by a slack mechanic when extractors fitted.
