Has any body replaced the stock fuel filter clips with new hose and hose clamps? HELP

Hi, after trying to change the fuel filter on my vt sr II. i tried to get the friggin piece of shit stock elbow clips and have not only successfully broke either end of the filter off in the clips, but in getting that out ****ed them completely. i have read a couple of posts like this but none has really explained how to replace the stock shit with some hose clamps and if needed new hose, so if anyone has done this could i get a bit of a run down and maybe even some pics?

USE 5/16 FUEL EFI HOSE and some hose clamps or buy a fuel line from the wreckers and use the ends,
