Hey guy's. Got a problem with my VT R8. I recently had a front end accident and it had a small engine fire(lucky I had a fire extingusher). Anyway it was an insurance job, got the car back and now have a vibrating/shudder in overdrive when I accelerate (usally from about 80-120). I first thought it was the engine mounts, replaced them, still does it. Got new rims, still does it. Got the transmission serviced, they said the transmission is fine. The suspension has been checked and is fine. Got the exhaust checked and is fine. Ive taken it back to them numerous amont of times and they said that they arnt sure what it is, therefore wont fix it. I dont think it would be the tail shaft, cause it only does it in overdrive. This is driving me nuts trying to find out what it is. Can any one shead some light on what it could be? Cheer's.
it is the the tail shaft or center bearing check them .
I had a similar problem in a Commodore I had several years back, it was the lock-up
in the torque converter, you could be sitting on say 80 to 90 and start to accelerate and you would get a vibrating rumble through the car. Had the converter replaced and all good.
Think about road speed related rather that rev related.
Rule out engine and geabrox. Leaves suspension, brakes, wheels, prop shaft, axles and diff.
Warped Disc rotor is a high possibility, so is prop shaft center bearing - ESPECIALLY if they don't have the right bearing mount on it. Later models Have a spacer under the center mount to change prop shaft angles a bit. Rims could be warped, tyres out of balance, wheel alignment out or a damaged toe link are all possible.
My VP had a tail shaft issue and did something similar. More when accelerating harder and cold.
