Hey guys,
Before anyone posts up a here we go another thread do some searching, il let you know i have searched bout 10 pages of threads in order to find what im looking for and nothing yet so here goes.
Doing a full driveline rebuild on my car, engine and trans and all and my question is, is it possible to rebuild a getrag gearbox myself? If so what manual would i need to follow? or is it just worth it taking it to a reputable rebuilder that people on this forum recommend and have him do it?
Cheers,
Social.
I would get a tranny specialist to rebuilt it. By the time you pay for the parts and the tools required, you could of paid for it to be rebuilt, and at least that way you would have a warranty.

Get a pro to do it.
It doesnt take much for you to ruin the thing and the money will be gone down the drain.
I had a look at the holden workshop manual when I considered this. I have never rebuilt a gearbox before (yourself too), even if i did eventually get it all done, with or without the extra tools required, would it have been done properly and to a good standard? Bascially, if my gearbox carks it, i will get it rebuilded by someone who knows what they are doing.
My getrag has a fair whine to it, but this is apparently due to the straight cut gears, so no worries.
You need a lot of specialist tools, which will probably outweigh the cost of labour you'd pay to have someone do it for you. Unless you're expecting to do a lot of them, just pay someone and you'll save yourself the time, expense, and possible mistakes you may make.
