I just bought myself a VX II Calais.....stoked, leather interior and all the bling. My last Calais was a VN and last 10 years without looking after it, very happy. The problem I have is the center console cup holder, when you go around a corner, your drink soft drink get thrown all over the place.
Is there a replacement with a deeper holder?
or has anyone got ideas what can be done?

hole saw??? lol.
Yep, Thats about the fourth time I've heard that in the last three days...hilarious. lol
Maybe just get shorter drinks.
hahaha. yeh, shorter drinks seem to be the answer....
are the rubber/foam tounge things still in the holder??
How's about putting a lid on your drink
Nup no, rubber/foam tounge things...
should it have them?
can i get one for the VX Calais?
I have a flip down lid on my cup holder
im not familiar with the calais, but does it have the two holders in the centre console??
Yeh i know what you mean, those VX Berlina/Calais cupholders aren't much good.
The VT models (and VX base models) had a small insert that had a rubber disc/tongue at the back of both cup holders. This clipped into the centre console at the front.
If you get one of these for your VXII make sure it's the correct colour. For the grey/black colours - on VXII the colour was "anthracite" (jet black). On VT and VX series 1 it was "pewter" (dark grey).
The VX Berlina/Calais models had redesigned cup holders with a flip-top lid. The center consoles were cut so these would fit (i.e. to fit these into a VT console, part of the plastic on the console has to be cut away). The VX cup holders do look neater when closed i suppose, but i found a 600ml soft drink bottle for example didn't fit in as easy as the VT ones did. Having said that, i also found the original VT cupholders "unclipped" from the console too easily.
Another alternative is to buy a HSV "driver's tool kit" insert (often see them on eBay). Unlike the VX Berlina/Calais cupholders, these HSV ones don't require a cutout in the console (so you can fit them to a VT). Take out the HSV tools then use the space & make something out of plastic to hold your drink, whatever size you want. The only thing is, i found there isn't enough room for two cup holders unless you cut past the insert into the console itself at both sides, which i thought wouldn't look much good so i didn't.
Having tried both of the above, so i bought one of those HSV inserts on eBay and took off the lid permanently, then modified it to suit a cold 375ml can inside a rubber stubby holder which is mostly how i have my drinks in the car (non-alcoholic drink, of course).
To do this i went to Bunning$ and bought a white plastic drain pipe "joiner" for about $3-4 (i can't remember exactly). It was about 80mm diamter and 15cm long (approximately) before i cut it down to what i wanted. Being a drainpipe "joiner" it was a slightly smaller diameter at one end than the other, so i cut it about 2cm from the middle so i still had a smaller diameter bit at one end (for foam coffee cups, Maccas drinks, bare cans) but with most of it as larger diameter to suit my cans in a stubby holder. Then i sanded it down with fine grit paper then got it (and the HSV insert) sprayed gloss black to suit the rest of my console (see pics). I then put some aquadhere (wood glue) on the bottom of the plastic piece and sat it inside the HSV insert. (N.B. I used aquadhere rather than something else as it's strong but easier to remove later if needed). I then filled up the spaces at the bottom both inside and around the cup holder with some carpet (boot carpet out of a wreck etc).
The only downside on what i've done is i only have 1 cup holder (not enough room for 2 as mentioned above) but as it's only me who drives it normally without passengers this doesn't bother me. Anyway the passenger(s) can hold onto their drinks!
i personally think that cans and macca's cups fit perfectly in my cup holder. never spilt a drink ever!![]()
Even I think stubby holders are the best way to hold the cans. It won't spill as well. Even stubby coolers are cool, it keeps our drinks cool.
Cool, Cooling cool stubby cooler
