not sure if anyone is interested, but I had a problem with my power windows in my 98 VT. There was a problem with both back windows, one went down but not back up and the other didn;t work at all. IT seems that there was a fault with the commodores that year where the wiring was not done correctly in the factory as the wires were incorrectly crimped(I think that is the word) so they were prone to breaking. The wiring on both of my doors was RS. The problem wiring is found in the wiring boot, found between the driver & passengers door.
If you are having probs then there is a good chance you have the same problem as I did...anyway I only got mine fixed today and all is going well....Accept i need to buy some sort of lube so the windows go up and down a little faster.
I hope this post helps somebody
cheers
Might sound dumb dude, but what did you do, re do the wiring? Or did you have someone do it for you.
I have the same issues with the windows, so I am keen to find out. I will have a look where you suggested. I can use a soldering iron well enough, was it an easy job?
same things happening to mine.
and the speakers cut out sometimes. i knew it was the wiring in the door jam through the rubber weatherproof tubing but couldnt be ****ed fixing it myself.
how much you get charged?
did you get an auto-elec to fix it?
Cheers.
G'day Fella's
I decided to get the auto electrician in, although if you are handy with the soldering then you could do it yourself. In the end all he did was bridge the connections with a new bit of wire...good as new....It only cost me $50 cash. If I did it I reckon somehow I would have found a way to short out all of the electrics in the car!!! If you know what I mean...
I hope you find the fault and fix it yourself...It did actually look pretty easy to do...the pain was just getting the new wire through the tubing
cheers
Hey Louieg
I had similar back seat electric window problems too. Turned out to be two knackered switches. $60 a pop genuine, but at least I know I shouldn't have any more problems (probably outlast the car too)
In regards to the lube for the windows, the guy who fixed my electric windows used a spray called Lanox.
PPC - Lanox Lubricant
He sprayed it on the black felt bit that the window slides over. Make a difference, very smooth. Never really worried about that on any car Ive owned but it makes sense, seeing it goes up and down all the time.
thanks mbvp73....I will try and score some and give it go....I don;t think my windows have been helped in anyway in the past....cheers
Yeah, I thought it was pretty swish too. Makes a difference for sure.
Hey,
Just wondering if your windows worked from the front switches and not the rear OR not at all?
Ever since I got my VT in 2001, the rear windows only worked from the front switches. I replaced the rear switches and the rear windows still didn't work from them...
I have an issue with the RHR passenger window not working from either switch. Is it quite likely that the issue is with the wiring??? Would probably be easier and cheaper to fix if it was.
